However, after consideration, I chose to move everything down towards the center more and allow more breathing room on my page. I originally placed everything near the top of the page because I planned on having more pictures and content. I also included a bent line across the page, which led into the next page for r/iama. However, I didn’t like the original grey bubbles very much and I wanted to add some more variation in the color scheme, so I later changed the comment bubbles for the entire project to blue with white text.įor this page, I wanted to present the viewer with a captivating picture of what they would find on the r/aww subreddit. I later added in the line to tie page 1 and 2 together. As you have already seen in my Initial Design section, I started out with some basic text, and later completed the page text seen below.

The 2nd page of my book was meant to serve as background information for readers about reddit and to introduce them to what the purpose of my book was. However, I later changed the style of the comment bubbles to match the style that I used in the rest of the book. Originally, I just took a quick screenshot of the reddit homepage, and later annotated it with comment bubbles to point out the specific parts of the page that users would need to know. After spending more time smoothing out the lines and making the cover less busy, I reached my completed cover below.įor my first page (the back of the cover), I wanted to create a quick reference that could help anyone new to reddit navigate the site without getting lost. I really liked where this new idea was going, but the lines were much too random and the turns were too harsh for my liking. I based my new cover and overall feeling on this subway map idea and spent a lot of time placing lines based on the reddit website color scheme.

During this time, I did not have a solid idea of what this book was going to look like, how the grid would work, or what my color scheme was going to be.Īfter stumbling upon some subway maps, I was really inspired by their color scheme and simplistic lines. I also started writing up some of the text that explained the purpose of the book. I envisioned my first page to be going down a road, with images of the popular subreddits I would be including on the side. I originally wanted to base the visual scheme of this book on roads with sidewalks and grassy lawns. They were originally header bars across the entire page, but were later replaced with simpler and smaller bubbles. Additionally, I included headers on top of each page. Those are to give little bits of fun information here and there to the reader. You might also notice the text bubbles that appear here and there. When viewed as a spread, they connect the pages together and add a visual flare. Throughout the images, you might notice the lines running through the pages. I planned out an 8 page book, combining what I’ve learned in typography, hierarchy, and grids to make a visually pleasing and, at times, witty book. Through the process of working on this project, I’ve gone through completely different formats as well as many iterations of similar ideas until I reached my final version. I ultimately decided to create a booklet to introduce new users to reddit. (To view correctly in Adobe Reader, click View -> Page Display -> Show Cover Page in Two Page View, Two Page View)įor this project, I was given fill control over what I wanted to write about.
